VIRTUAL LUNCH & LEARNS
I have 3 distinct, but interconnected series. Each series has 10 parts that address subjects around male trauma. The subjects are based on my book, The Unbound Man, and aim to do three specific things: address the real struggles staff experience in every area of their lives, provide real help by offering specific tools and resources for obstacles they are trying to overcome, and foster real hope that they can get better and come out of their struggles stronger than they were before.
If you’re worried that male trauma might be to narrow a subject, be assured that it is not. I spend time weaving in information that addresses the struggles and impacts of trauma on women, people of color, and gender non-binary folks as well. I go beyond trauma and address specific obstacles and struggles that have been created through traumatic or secondary traumatic experiences. My assignment is pretty simple; to be a catalyst for people ready to courageously change their lives. If that’s a core part of your organization’s culture, or you desire it to be, then Unbound Lunch and Learns with Matt Burton is for you. |
“Trauma often leads to destructive behaviors, which can land men and kids in prison or the juvenile justice system. Matt is working to help men and youth recognize how their trauma is impacting their lives and behaviors and then helps guide them through the recovery journey. Matt’s book is timely for those of us within the criminal and juvenile justice systems who are beginning to tackle the issues of trauma affecting the men and youth we serve. Understanding the traumas youth and adult prisoners have suffered can provide staff with an understanding of where certain behavioral issues come from, help them better recognize what triggers these behaviors, and provide them with insight that helps de-escalate situations and behaviors in way that improves the overall atmosphere and reduces incidents of violence within the “prison” setting. This book should be required reading for all staff working in correctional environments, particularly within the juvenile justice system.”
